1. Respecting your privacy
GRAIN & CELLAR PTY LTD (ABN 76 686 145 086), trading as SA Liquor Australia (“SA Liquor”, “we”, “us” or “our”), is committed to protecting your personal information and complying with the privacy laws that apply to our business, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles where applicable.
This policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information when you visit our website, shop with us, arrange a delivery, contact us or participate in our promotions. It also explains how you can access or correct your information and raise a privacy concern.
Personal information is information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable.
2. Personal information we collect
We collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for our business activities. Depending on how you deal with us, this may include:
- Contact details: your name, email address, telephone number, billing address and delivery address.
- Account details: information you provide when creating or managing a customer account, including your customer reference number and communication preferences.
- Order information: products purchased, order history, transaction references, refunds, returns and delivery instructions.
- Payment information: information needed to process or confirm a payment. Depending on the payment method, payment details may be collected and processed directly by a payment service provider.
- Age and identity information: your date of birth, age-verification results or other identity details where required or reasonably necessary for a purchase, delivery or verification request.
- Communications: enquiries, feedback, complaints, reviews and information you provide when contacting us.
- Marketing preferences: subscriptions, consent records, unsubscribe requests and product interests you choose to share.
- Website information: your IP address, device and browser information, pages visited and interactions with our website, where collected through server logs, cookies or similar technologies.
If you arrange a delivery for another person, we may collect the recipient's name, address, contact details and relevant delivery information. Please ensure you are authorised to provide their details and make them aware of this policy.
We seek to limit information collected for age and identity checks to what is reasonably necessary. Sensitive information, such as health information, is not ordinarily needed for a retail order. If it is needed for a particular matter, we will seek consent unless collection without consent is permitted or required by law.
3. How we collect personal information
We generally collect personal information directly from you when you:
- Place an order, make a payment, create an account or arrange delivery.
- Contact us by email, telephone, an online form or social media.
- Subscribe to marketing communications or enter a promotion or competition.
- Submit feedback, a review, a return request or a complaint.
- Provide information for an age, identity or security check.
- Browse or interact with our website.
We may also receive relevant information from payment providers, delivery providers, someone placing an order on your behalf or another person you have authorised to deal with us.
Where lawful and practical, you can make a general enquiry without identifying yourself or by using a pseudonym. We may be unable to fulfil an order, arrange delivery, verify eligibility or resolve an account-specific enquiry without the necessary information.
4. How we hold and protect personal information
Personal information may be held electronically in systems operated by us or our service providers, and in paper records where necessary.
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps may include access restrictions, appropriate system security and confidentiality requirements for people handling information on our behalf.
No electronic transmission or storage system is completely secure. If a data breach occurs, we will assess and respond to it and notify affected individuals and regulators where required by applicable law.
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, including relevant accounting, legal, dispute-resolution and recordkeeping requirements. When it is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to destroy it securely or de-identify it, unless retention is required by law.
5. How we use personal information
We may use personal information to:
- Process orders, payments, refunds and returns.
- Manage customer accounts and arrange deliveries.
- Verify age or identity where necessary and support the responsible sale and delivery of alcohol.
- Send order confirmations, delivery updates and other service communications.
- Respond to enquiries, feedback and complaints.
- Administer promotions and competitions you choose to enter.
- Send marketing communications in accordance with your consent and applicable law.
- Understand customer preferences and improve our products, website and services.
- Detect and investigate suspected fraud, payment misuse and security incidents.
- Meet legal obligations, keep necessary records and establish or defend legal claims.
We may use de-identified information for reporting and service improvement where individuals are no longer reasonably identifiable.
6. When we disclose personal information
We may disclose relevant personal information to:
- Payment processors and financial institutions involved in payments, refunds or disputed transactions.
- Delivery and logistics providers involved in fulfilling orders.
- Providers of website hosting, IT support, data storage, customer communications and other business services.
- Marketing service providers acting on our behalf, where the relevant use is permitted.
- Professional advisers, such as accountants, lawyers and insurers, where needed for their services.
- Regulators, courts, law-enforcement bodies or other parties where disclosure is required or authorised by law.
- A prospective purchaser or successor of our business where reasonably necessary for a proposed transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.

We seek to limit disclosures to information relevant to the purpose and require service providers handling information on our behalf to protect it appropriately.
7. Cookies and website technologies
Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to operate shopping-cart and account functions, remember preferences, understand website use and improve performance.
Where analytics or advertising technologies are used, they may also help measure campaign performance or display relevant advertising. Depending on the technology, third-party providers may collect information about your browser, device and online activity under their own privacy policies.
You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings and use any privacy controls made available on our website. Blocking some cookies may affect website functions, including account access or checkout.
8. Email and SMS marketing
We send promotional emails and SMS messages with consent as required by applicable law. Providing an email address or telephone number for an order does not, by itself, subscribe you to marketing.
If you subscribe, messages may include product news, offers and promotions. We may use service providers to send these messages on our behalf.
You can unsubscribe at any time by:
- Using the unsubscribe link in a marketing email.
- Following the unsubscribe instructions in a marketing SMS, such as replying STOP where that option is provided.
- Contacting privacy@saliquor.com.au.
We will action unsubscribe requests within five working days. We do not charge an unsubscribe fee or require account login; standard carrier charges may apply when sending an SMS reply.
Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent necessary, non-promotional communications about an existing order, delivery, payment or account security. We may retain a limited record of your opt-out to ensure it is respected.
9. Overseas handling of personal information
Our website and customer database are hosted in Australia. Some of the technology and payment services we use nonetheless involve the storage or handling of personal information outside Australia.
We are likely to disclose personal information to the following categories of overseas recipient:
- Payment processing. We use Stripe to process card payments. Stripe is headquartered in the United States and processes and stores payment and transaction information outside Australia, including in the United States and Ireland.
- Website delivery. Our pages load fonts and other website components from content delivery networks operated by Google and by jsDelivr. Your IP address and browser information are disclosed to those providers when your browser requests those components. They are located in the United States and operate servers in a number of countries.
- Technology and support services. Some providers of IT support, data storage, email delivery and similar services may access information from outside Australia depending on the service.
Where we disclose personal information overseas, we will take the reasonable steps required by applicable privacy law to protect it. Using our website does not, by itself, waive any responsibility we have under that law.
10. Accessing and correcting your information
You can request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold about you by contacting our Privacy Officer using the details in section 14.
We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and understand your request. We aim to respond within 30 days. If more time is needed, we will explain why and provide an expected response time.
We do not charge for making an access or correction request or for correcting information. If a fee for providing access is permitted by law, it will be reasonable and we will explain it before proceeding.
If we refuse access or a requested correction, we will explain the reason, unless we are not permitted to do so, and tell you how to complain. Where applicable, you may ask us to attach a statement explaining a disputed correction to the relevant record.
11. Privacy enquiries and complaints
If you have a privacy concern or believe we have mishandled your personal information, please contact our Privacy Officer. Include enough information for us to understand the concern and your preferred contact method.
We will acknowledge and investigate your complaint and aim to provide a written response within 30 days. If more time is needed, we will explain the delay and keep you informed.
If you are dissatisfied with our response, or we have not responded within 30 days, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). The OAIC can explain whether your concern falls within its jurisdiction and how to proceed. See the OAIC privacy complaints guidance.
12. Other websites and additional notices
Our website may link to third-party websites or services. Their information-handling practices are governed by their own privacy policies, which you should review when using those services.
We may provide additional privacy notices when collecting information for a particular activity. Those notices should be read together with this policy.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to our business, services or legal obligations. The current version will be available on our website, with its revision date shown above. Where required, we will provide additional notice or seek consent for a change in how personal information is handled.
